Baywatch’ Remake In Talks? Cast And Crew Yet To Be Sorted

Popular 80's show Baywatch is in talks to be remade but no official announcement is made for the cast and revival of the old cast.

Baywatch could return to the small screen. As per the sources from Deadline, it is learned that Fremantle is developing a reboot of the classic beach drama series and has held initial talks that would bring back one of the biggest shows of the late ’80s and ’90s as the classic show reboot trend continues. There are currently no creatives associated with the reset.

The series spawned international stars like David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.
The series followed a group of lifeguards who patrolled the beaches of Los Angeles County. Originally produced by Gannett for NBC, the show was canceled after one season.

The show then ran for 10 more seasons, including a move to Hawaii for subsequent seasons, and went on to become one of the most-watched shows in the world, particularly internationally, before launching the Baywatch Nights spin-off. There was also Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, a two-hour reunion film that aired on Fox, and the 2017 film starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. The series was performed by Hasselhoff, Anderson, David Charvet, Yasmine Bleeth and Nicole Eggert, among others.

In 2018, Fremantle International COO Bob McCourt told Deadline that a remake was “definitely being discussed” after old episodes were remastered in high definition.

“I think we thought the movie might have given us a reason to reboot the TV series, but given the mixed reviews, that didn’t happen right away. I think if this remastered version sells widely and new audiences come to Baywatch, it will give us a real indication of whether a new series could be successful. We would definitely seriously consider doing a new series and maybe some networks will approach us to do one,” he said. (Deadline)
