Hollywood Actors Who Refused To Do Kissing Scene

Though onscreen kissing is one of the favourite things to watch, there are a few Hollywood stars who refused to do so.

Romance is one of the fans’ favourite genres. We can’t imagine romcom films or shows without any onscreen lip-locking. However, according to The New York Times report, in a 25-second short film by Thomas Edison in 1896, audiences witnessed the very first onscreen kiss. Just like the first kisses, it was quite awkward. It soon became a trend that’s still loved by audiences.

Hollywood films and shows have made sure that the kissing scenes aren’t uncomfortable to watch, even if you are watching it with family. Though onscreen kissing is one of the favourite things to watch, there are a few stars who refused to do so.

Kirk Cameron
Kirk Cameron is better known for his role as Mike Seaver on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains. He was also nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. However, in the 2008 film Fireproof, Cameron had to share an onscreen kiss with Erin Bethea who was playing the role of his wife but Cameron wouldn’t do it. To film the scene, the filmmakers had to dress Cameron’s real-life wife, Chelsea Noble, as the wife character and shoot the kissing scene in shadow to blur the difference between Noble and Bethea.

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev
Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev starred as the two lovebirds in The Vampire Diaries. Their steamy kiss in the rain as Damon and Elena in The Vampire Diaries is still the talk of the town. However, both Somerhalder and Dobrev refused to do that scene. During the PaleyFest panel for The Vampire Diaries, Somerhalder shared, “First of all, it’s really cold in Georgia, so I don’t think that’s such a good idea.” The actor revealed that it was below 30 degrees at the time, causing his jaw muscles to freeze up. Meanwhile, Dobrev revealed that she had icicles in her hair at the time and later became ill.

Will Smith
Will Smith is one of the greatest actors in Hollywood. However, in 1993’s Six Degrees of Separation, inspired by the real-life story of David Hampton, Smith’s character was gay and you must have seen him kissing his costar. However, according to the Independent, the film’s director, Fred Schepisi, was furious when Smith refused to kiss a male co-star on camera. Smith insisted the scene be shot from behind, which enabled him to fake the kiss.
