Vinod Khanna wanted to visit his birth place Peshawar and see his ancestral house

The actor was born in Pakistan in the year 1946 and moved to India with his family when he was just an infant.

Actor Vinod Khanna had expressed the desire to visit his ancestral home in the city of Peshawar in Pakistan. Khanna was born in Peshawar in 1946 and his parents migrated to India during independence when the actor was just 1 year old. As a part of a cultural delegation, Khanna had met the General Secretary of Cultural Heritage Council Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shakeel Waheedullah in 2014. Recalling his meeting with the actor Shakeel said that Vinod had given him his autograph and had also expressed his desire to see his ancestral city. “Khanna wanted to visit Peshawar to see the area where his parents and forefathers lived. He had sent a request for his visit to Pakistan, but could not succeed,” he said.

He went on to say that Cultural Heritage Council Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will hold an event in the memory of Vinod Khanna. The delegation that met Vinod Khanna in2 014 also included renowned film historian Muhammad Ibrahim Zia and actor Dilip Kumar. Zia revealed that the actor’s ancestral home in Peshawar is being used by All Pakistan Women’s Association and is still intact. Zia recalled his meeting with the actor and said that the actor was very happy to have met people from his birth place.

Vinod Khanna passed away recently at a hospital in Mumbai after battling bladder cancer and dehydration. Various celebrities are mourning the loss of the beloved actor and have offered their condolences. He was last seen in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer film ‘Dilwale’ which released in 2015.
