As his latest film was welcomed warmly by the fans with a huge opening day box office collections, James Gunn, the director of 'Guardian and Galaxy Vol.2' thanked his fan in a lengthy facebook post. The 46-year-old director confessed in his post that in he struggled in his youth to find his true self and even considered taking his life.

The director said that when he was young he felt utterly alone, at times to the point of suicidal thoughts. He further said that he never felt like he belonged in this world and had an incredibly difficult time connecting to other people, despite having love around him. James had an impossible time experiencing it or taking it in. But music and movies came to his rescue and through it, he became aware of the fact that there are other people like him in this world. He also mentioned that through cinema he could see past the bland suburbs where he lived into a more magical world, a world more aligned with what he had imagined. The director also said that sometimes for him, these works were simply escapist fantasies that distracted him from the difficulties of his internal life. But other times, in the strongest moments - maybe through the words of Alice Cooper or Freddie Mercury, through Cronenberg films, or even in Chewbacca's growl, he experienced something deeper - the realization that he wasn't completely alone. Guardians of Galaxy Vol.2 shot to $56.3 million on Friday and James Gunn took this moment to convey his heartfelt message to his fans.
