Her claim to fame has been Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. Freida Pinto started as a model at a young age and then went on to be a television presenter. While she kept trying for a break in Bollywood she got none so ever. But after years of struggle she landed a role in Hollywood ventures Slumdog Millionaire and there was no looking back for her. She was applauded for her work and garnered many awards. Freida took Hollywood by storm. She came to be known as the fashion icon of our country, it was a literal transformation from a duckling to a swan. Later she appeared in Woody Allen’s comedy drama where she appeared alongside Antonio Bandera, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Anupam Kher and Naomi Watts in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010). Freida Pinto must not have imagined in her wildest dreams that she would make it so big one day. The girl who was almost rejected by Bollywood filmmakers became the cynosure of Hollywood with just one film Slumdog Millionaire. Pinto attended the Carmel of St. Joseph School in Malad, and then graduated from St. Xavier's College; Mumbai. With a major in English literature, with minors in psychology and economics it was not literally a rag to riches story but Freida's journey from Bollywood to Hollywood was no less than a film script itself. She was wowed by the Hollywood filmmakers once she set her foot on the western sands. Her whirlwind romance with her Slumdog co-star Dev Patel also created a lot of hype for this young girl from Mumbai. The two parted ways later. She later played the central character in Miral, a biographical film based on the novel of the same name by Rula Jebreal. The film received negative reviews, although Freida’s performance was appreciated. Her next was a science fiction film Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), a reboot of the Planet of the Apes series. She played Caroline Aranha, a primatologist and was cast opposite James Franco. The film was commercially successful, grossing US$453 million worldwide. Pinto's second appearance of 2011 was in Trishna, a British drama film an adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s novel Tess of the d’Urbervilles produced by Michael Winterbottom, in which she played the titular character. The film was nominated for the Best Film Award at the 55th BFI London Film Festival and Grand Prix at the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival. The same year, Pinto played Princess Lailah in Day of the Falcon, a period drama set in the 1930s, alongside Banderas and Mark Strong. She then appeared in a fantasy-action film Immortals, in which she played the oracle priestess Phaedra. The actress went on to do film after film by now Freida Pinto was a known name in Hollywood. She also appeared in the music video for Bruno Mars Single titled Gorilla. She was criticized for shedding her clothes and becoming physically intimate with Mars. She is now supporting the Girl rising campaign along with the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Sushmita Sen and a host of other Bollywood celebrities. She also provided the voice over for the documentary. She appeared in a biographical drama Desert Dancer based on life of Iranian choreographer Afshin Ghaffarian. Her next film, Knight of Cups, in which she acted alongside Christian Bale, was screened in the competition section at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2015 The 31 year old is now working on Andy Serkis' Jungle Book: Origins, a live action adventure fantasy film based on Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. She is also doing Blunt Force Trauma, along with Mickey Rourke, is awaiting release.
