Kaatru Veliyidai Review

Though the trailers of the film ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ were portraying a larger than life lLove story’, the film doesn’t have the soul to fully satisfy the viewer. The cinematography of the film is great and features some really breath-taking shots but, the film lacks the depth usually seen in Mani Ratnam films. The choreography of the dance sequences is terrific and combined together with the melodious music of AR Rahman, the combination is simply beautiful.
The film revolves around the Kargil War and features the main character named ‘Varun’, played by Karthi. Karthi is a fighter pilot in the film and his lady love is a doctor. The female lead of the film, Aditi Rao Hydari beautifully plays her character named ‘Leela’ and is madly in love with Karthi’s character despite his character being a jerk.
The film was supposed to be a memorable venture between AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam as it marks 25 years of their collaborations and Rahman has made sure his job was well done. The film is also the first one in Mani Ratnam’s long career, which features scenes shot outside of the country. Otherwise, Mani Ratnam always shoots his films in India but ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ features fighter plane scenes which required to be shot outside India.

The Verdict

The main performer of the film is ‘Ravi Varman’ who has done the cinematography. Released in theatres this Friday, it remains to be seen how the film performs at the box office and if the audiences will give it thumbs up or not.

Filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s latest offering ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ fails to make an impact on the viewer and is a one-time watch
