Guru Review

Victory Venkatesh, Ritika Singh, and Mumtaz Sorcar starrer Guru is directed by Sudha Kongara and is bankrolled by ‘Ynot’ productions. Guru is a remake of popular bilingual sports drama, which was title Saala Khadoos for Hindi audiences and Irudhi Sutturu for Tamil audiences. The original movie casts R. Madhavan in the lead role.

In ‘Guru’, director Sudha Kongara has been successful in recreating the magic of the original movie and in certain places ‘Guru’ is better in terms of character depth. Aditya Rao (who is played by Victory Venkatesh) and Rumudu (who is played by Ritika) offers some refreshing moments in their relationship of a coach and a student. Mumtaz Sorcar plays the role of Rumudu’s sister. Mumtaz was also seen in the original movie.
Meanwhile, in some scenes the film looks exactly like the original ‘Saala Khadoos’ but it all suits the essence of the film and KA Sakthivel has done a great job as a cinematographer and his work especially in the climax is outstanding. Talking about the song, visuals and lyrical combinations leave a lasting impression on the audiences. That being said, Zaakir’s character had a lot of scope for improvement and also the screenplay could have been better but it was good to see Sudha trying something new from the original movie.

The Verdict

Overall the movie is worth a watch and the movie is a good sports drama with a social message integrated into it. Aditya Rao’s frustration with the politics in the sports committee, Ramudu’s rapport for her coach, and the dialogues are the highlights of this film.
