Happy New Year Review

Director Panaga Bharana who comes from a lineage of filmmakers has made his directorial debut with the film ‘Happy New Year’ which has arrived in theatres this weekend after a month long promotional campaign. The film features five different stories running parallel to each other which feature An RJ, car showroom head, IT professional, underworld don and police constable. These characters are dealing with their own personal love stories in the film around the time when New Year’s Eve is around the corner. The film is a feel good entertainer and has many delightful moments throughout the story.

The film has a good portion of comedy, romance, action and some emotional scenes as well and Pannaga has made the film in such a way that no particular story overshadows the other. Actors Dhananjaya, Rajshri Ponnappa, Saikumar and Diganth have given memorable performances in the film that make the viewers like their characters instantly.

A dose of good music by Music composer Raghu Dixit makes watching the film a wonderful experience. Making an anthology film is director Pannaga’s way of paying homage to Hollywood filmmakers and their style of filmmaking. Pannaga had been inspired by anthologies and used to wonder why filmmakers in Kannada film industry hesitate to try something on similar lines. This is why he took matters in his own hands to make a film with this setting.

The Verdict

The film is family entertainer and assembling and handling such a star cast in a single film these days is a tough job but Pannaga has done his job perfectly.
