Baywatch Review

Well if you thought you were going to watch something as similar to Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff's Baywatch series, well you're in for some disappointment. Apart from the beaches and the slow-mo running oh and how can we forget the cast practically in their underwears (oh yeah, we know it on a beach) nothing seems like the Baywatch series.

Mitch Buchannon aka Dwayne The Rock Johnson, lieutenant of the Baywatch lifeguard squad has taken on himself to get rid of all the illegal activities brought about by Victoria Leeds played by Priyanka Chopra. Dwayne Johnson is failing miserably in the shoes of David Hasselhoff. His hero like act is borderline narcissistic, annoying and pretentious

Well, Priyanka Chopra cut the straw of the bond style villainess with an empty cackle and her performance is practically lifeless. Now this team is, well I guess 'divided' would be the right word to use here as Brody aka Zac Efron, a young but fallen Olympic champion is on his path of redemption and disagrees with Mitch for almost everything. Zac Efron is the blonde in this movie and also the target of all jokes and awful gags, which also particularly includes being dressed as a lady in a mini dress with heels and also being called ridiculous funny names such as One Direction, High School Musical and also Bieber.

The exchange between CJ (Kelly Rohrbach) and Ronnie (Jon Bass), where Ronnie is seen to be humiliating himself, however, CJ finds herself attracted to him (The typical Hollywood cliche of how charmless horny geek always lands up with the hot bimbo)
David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson have a small cameo in the movie, but we can actually picture them getting together to the set and laughing about just how the movie seems like a joke compared to the series.

It seems like Director Seth Gordon tried too hard to turn the series based movie Baywatch to a crime caper. The movie is a little bit more than boobs and the beaches as Seth did throw in a bunch of pieces about male genitalia (seems like trying to even the stakes.)

The Verdict

The movie all in all is a sad, lazy and cheesy summer film. It's a shame that when you have a charming cast like this you make them a quagmire of old stale jokes and sitcom-level plot, makes this remake a missed opportunity and hence we give this movie a 2-star rating.
