Bhavesh Joshi Superhero Review

One isn't sure what drove director VikramadityaMotwane to make a whole film on the water mafia of Mumbai.

Politicians, the municipality and the police are all a part of a huge conspiracy to rob all the water and then sell truckloads of it to citizens at an exorbitant price. There's a mean politician at the top who'll go to any lengths to get the contract for new water pipes.

It's a pretty unexciting premise in the first place and is also told in the most plodding manner possible. It certainly doesn't stir enough emotion to warrant young men turning into vigilantes.

Bhavesh Joshi and Sikandar Khanna are close friends who feel strongly about corruption and begin their own Insaaf TV. They wear masks and go about hauling up people who break the law. Especially Bhavesh who's emotionally driven by his mission.

There's a predictable twist to Sikandar turning into Bhavesh to carry on the incomplete work of his friend.

A few shots are well framed and the main thought is noble. But that hardly salvages a lengthy film where scenes go on endlessly.

There is, for instance, a scene where Bhavesh walks out of a tricky situation in a nightclub and could have easily vanished into the darkness. Instead, he fires up his motorbike and an excruciatingly long chase ensues. The fault is that the screenplay just isn't smart enough for such a subject and therefore doesn't move fast like a crime and action drama should.

It's also outdated with several scenes about corruption in police verification for a passport. It's a non-existent problem for average Mumbaikars especially today when verification is no longer a hitch.

PriyanshuPainyuli as Bhavesh Joshi is extremely natural. In comparison, Harshvardhan Kapoor looks more earnest than at ease.
