Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee; who had begun a sit-in protest against the CBI's decision to question Kolkata Police Chief Rajeev Kumar, has now ended her dharna after 3 long days after the Supreme Court passed a verdict wherein the CBI and the Kolkata Police were asked to discuss their differences at a neutral venue.

The protest was a full-blown political stand-off that saw a host of opposition leaders extending support to the Trinamool Congress chief. The CBI has contended that Mr. Kumar; who conducted the initial investigation into the Saradha and Rose Valley Ponzi scheme scam, had "doctored evidence" to shield the accused. Several leaders of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress have been arrested with regards to the same.

Hearing a case filed by the CBI, the Supreme Court directed Kumar to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation in the Saradha cheat fund case in Shillong "on such date(s) as may be fixed and to "fruitfully cooperate with the investigating agency at all times".

Reacting to the Supreme Court's verdict issued by Chief Justice of India (CJI); Deepak Gogoi, Mamta Banerjee said," This order was passed earlier also that they can talk mutually in a mutual place. We are grateful for the verdict. Rajeev Kumar never said he would not cooperate. He gave five letters to the CBI asking the officials to meet him at a mutual place, but they went to his house to arrest him in a secret operation. Today the court said no arrest... We welcome the verdict. It will strengthen the morale of the officials."

On the other hand, addressing a rally in Purulia, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flaked Banerjee for her actions saying," A chief minister herself tries to protect a corrupt officer -- nothing can be more shameful than this in a democracy. He must meet the CBI and reveal who all are involved in the Saradha scam."
