With just two days for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, two biggest political parties of the country have released their manifestos. Both the parties have managed to include some concerning issues in their party manifesto. The pertaining issues like unemployment, women security, economy to combating terrorism have made their way in the manifesto.

It also makes us wonder how these crucial election times make political parties to give desperate promises. While the Congress party's manifesto is titled "Congress Will Deliver" the Bharatiya Janata Party's manifesto is titled "Sankalp Bharat, Sashakt Bharat.

So, let's have a look at 5 major differences between Bharatiya Janata Party manifesto and Congress manifesto.

Agriculture & Farmers

It seems farmers distress has caused a major stir in political parties. Be it Congress or BJP, both the political parties in their manifesto have stressed on providing financial support to them and eradicating prevailing agrarian distress. While Congress manifesto has gone a step ahead this time pledged to introduce a separate ‘Kisan Budget'.

The party also promised to waive of outstanding loans. On the other hand, the Bhartiya Janta Party has promised to double farmers'income by 2002 and to provide pensions for small, marginal farmers.

Poverty

The manifesto of India's old party Congress focused to eliminate abject poverty in the country by 2030 through Nuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) scheme. The party also promised to provide Rs 72,000 a year to the 20 percent poorest families in the country.

Bhartiya Janta Party has vowed to bring down the number of Below Poverty Line families to a single digit.

Jammu & Kashmir

Another major promise made by both the political parties after farmer distress is restoring peace in Jammu & Kashmir.

The grand old party has pledged to review few clauses of Armed Forces (Special Powers) AFSPA Act and initiate the peace process in Kashmir valley. On the contrary saffron party has made its stand clear on abrogation of Article 370 and abolishing of Article 35A.

Job Creation

With the huge problem of rising unemployment in the country, both the leading parties have stressed on creating new job opportunities.

The Congress party has significantly focused on creating 22 lakh job options by the end of 2020. However, the BJP's election document has promised to create new employment opportunities by adding support to the 22 major 'Champion Sectors'.

Women Empowerment

Both political parties in their election document have focused on empowering women in the country. While Congress in its manifesto pledged to  increase women reservation by 33 percent in Central government and Lok Sabha.

The ruling party of BJP in its manifesto ensured major focus on current programs such as 'Beti Padhao, Beti and Saubhagya campaign.

Although manifestos play a very crucial role in the elections. But, don't you think so not delivering what is being said is also unethical. There also needs to be a provision where political parties should be made accountable for their promises.
