Taarak Mehta, best known as an Indian columnist, writer, humorist and playwright passed away today early morning in Ahmedabad. The noted writer passed away at the age of 87 due to prolonged illness. Television's popular serial, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma was based on his column, which later became the flagship show of the channel.

The writer's sudden death is surely a sad news for the entire industry and a big loss to Gujarati literature. No doubt it is a big shock for the family as well, as we can see his wife and other members of the family are extremely saddened.



Mehta was also awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India, in 2015. Mehta started writing his column, Duniya Ne Undha Chasma in Chitralekha in 1971. Taarak Mehta has always made us laugh through his books and will always stay in our memories. May his soul rest in peace
