The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann has found his King of Pop in Austin Butler

Baz Luhrmann well known for his work The Great Gatsby is set to direct a film based on the life of The King of Pop Elvis Presley, the directed has reportedly finalized Switched at Births star Austin Butler to play the legendary singer.

After his massive hit The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Amitabh Bachchan, Baz Luhrmann had announced he'll be directing a biopic on great singer Elvis Presley, the singer is regarded as one of the cultural icons of his era he is also referred as "The King of Pop".


It was previously reported that the director is eyeing on actors such as Ansel Elgort, Harry Styles, Miles Teller and Austin Butler. After multiple audition and screen testing, Baz has finalized Austin Butler to fill in the shoes of the legendary singer, alongside Tom Hanks as Elvis' manager Colonel Tom Parker. The film is yet an untitled drama, but is said that the film traces the journey of late singer from being poor to becoming the King of Pop.


The actor broke his casting news on Instagram quoting a Presley's hit song, "You have made my life complete, and I love you so."


Austin is known for acing his acting skills in shows such as Switched at Births and The Shannara Chronicles. He made his Broadway debut in 2018, which gained fair reviews from critics. He'll be seen in upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, alongside Bill Murray and Adam Driver starrer The Dead Don't Die.


The film is reportedly to go on floors early 2020 in Queensland, Australia.
