Selena Gomez recently graced the carpet of the Cannes Film Festival in order to promote her upcoming film, The Dead Don't Die, spoke about the harmful effects of social media and why she is scared of it.

Calling it a dangerous influence to the modern society and its people, the 26-year-old actress and singer spoke at the Press Conference discussing the effects social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram have on the young generation and how it must be prevented.

She said, "Our world is going through a lot. I would say, for my generation specifically, social media has really been terrible. It does scare me when you see how exposed these young boys and young girls are. They are not aware of the news. It's dangerous for sure. I don't think people are getting the right information sometimes."
Gomez, who has more than 150 million followers on Instagram, said that she's become highly selective about what she posts on her picture sharing platform.

She further added, "It's impossible to make it safe at this point. I don't do a lot of pointless pictures -- I like to be intentional with it. It just scares me, that's all. I see young girls at meet-and-greets, and they're just devastated, dealing with bullying and not able to have their own voices. [Social media] can be great in moments, but I'd just be careful and allow yourself some time limits -- when to use it, and when you shouldn't."

Gomez was on a short social media break from social media in the year 2018 when she faced health issues and was also undergoing treatment for her anxiety and depression at a mental health facility. On being back after three months, she thanked all her fans for their unconditional love and support through her difficult time.
