Seven-time Grammy winner and the very much loved pop icon Prince, known for megahits like “When Doves Cry” and “Purple Rain,” breathed his last at the age of 57.

The music world has lost yet another legend, world renowned pop artist Prince Rogers Nelson, died at age 57, probably due to a drug overdose. Shortly after the sad news of Prince's death became public, various stars expressed their sadness on social media. "It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," the rep said in a statement. “There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time." As the tragic news spread, approximately 200 people gathered outside the Paisley Park compound carrying bouquets, balloons, and signs in tribute to the singer. Later Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson, showed up to tell the crowd that her brother "loved all of you. Thank you for loving him back." MTV canceled its regular programming on the same day and went wall-to-wall with Prince's music videos following the news of his death. President Obama released a statement calling the superstar "a creative icon." Prince's legacy as a performer and a style icon has been impeccable and his influence stretches from pop to R&B to funk to hip-hop and everywhere in between. What a big loss!
