Meryl Streep to play the cousin of Mary Poppins in the next sequel of the classic movie

In the movie she will be seen playing the role of ‘Topsy’, who receives a visit from the nanny (Emily Blunt) and the Banks children during their adventurous lessons.

According to the reports from Entertainment Weekly, one of the most celebrated actresses of all time, Meryl Streep is all set to play the role of 'Topsy', cousin of Mary Poppins in the upcoming 'Mary Poppins Returns'. Rob Marshall, the director of the upcoming movie said that the veteran actress, whom he worked with in 'Into the Wild' has been drawn in towards the sequel of the classic movie because of its message of optimism. In the movie, she will be seen playing the role of 'Topsy', who receives a visit from the nanny (Emily Blunt) and the Banks children during their adventurous lessons. Interestingly, Meryl Streep will also get her own song, which has been penned down by Marc Shaiman andScott Wittman and it will be played when she welcomes her young guests to her world, which is lived almost entirely in upside-downs and opposites.

Earlier, it was reported that the original Marry Poppins, Julie Andrews doesn't want to appear in the sequel of the classic movie. Julie Andrews came forward and stated the reason of her not willing to come back for the sequel, saying that this is Emily's show, and she really wants it to be Emily's show. She further said that she really want Emily to take this and run with it because she will be brilliant.

While the director of the movie said that Julie Andrews will always be, for him and for everybody, the most astonishing performance as Mary Poppins, winning the Oscar and bursting onto the scene so brilliantly. But the director also added that Emily is the perfect person to carry the torch, and he knows Julie feels the exact same way.
