As the penultimate season of the most popular series of the world right now, ‘Game of Thrones' is nearing with every passing day, the few leftover details of the final season of the HBO's TV series has started falling into place. And the latest information about the eighth and the last season tells that the final season of the TV series will be consisting of six episodes. This information was confirmed by a source, ahead of the season seven premiere in July. Meanwhile, it has been also officially confirmed that the seventh season of the popular TV series will be having a total of seven episodes.  

The news of the two shorter season of the George R.R. Martin's adaptation was first broken by the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and several months later the HBO officially confirmed the news that the following two season of the series would be shorter and the eighth season will be the last of the series. In an official statement that was released by Casey Bloys, President of Programming at HBO, confirmed the news, saying tat he thinks that the showrunners of the series, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do. He further added that if he could get them to do more, he would take 10 seasons, but the team wants to take the lead of the showrunners with what they could do and what the best version of the show is according to them.
