Selena Gomez has been dethroned as the Instagram's most followed user and is second to Cristiano Ronaldo. Selena lost the title she never was too keen on in the first place. As of now, she has 144,308,767 followers, while he has 144,309,204. And though the numbers are steadily growing, Ronaldo came ahead.

Selena initially took the top spot from Taylor Swift in 2016. But though it's shocking that Selena is no longer the most followed person, seems like she may not even mind since last month she revealed that she's taking a social media break to get some much-needed rest.

Selena in shared a post on Instagram in September that read, "Taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody's feelings. Obvi."

This post came shortly before she made headlines for going to a rehab facility to get mental health treatment after a reported emotional breakdown.

Even in an Instagram Live video, Selena said, "None of this matters. I don't care how many followers I have. I don't. I don't care. I could have none tomorrow. Makes no difference. It's just a number and it's insane so many people are obsessed with a number. It's like, chill out."

Whereas Ronaldo has been in the news a lot over the past few months. He left Real Madrid his home team for an Italian football club Juventus. But in September he was accused of rape but denied the allegations and also stated that with a "clear conscience" he will "await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations."
