‘Ghostbusters’ sequel directed by Jason Reitman set for July 2020 release

Ten days after Sony Pictures revealed that director Jason Reitman, was on board to direct an untitled sequel, made an announcement late Friday afternoon confirming Reitman's "Ghostbusters" sequel is set to release on July 10, 2020. Reitman's father, Ivan had originally directed "Ghostbusters," starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver.

"Ghostbuster" revolves around Peter Venkman, played by Bill Murray who headed a team of parapsychologists who starts a ghost-catching business in New York City. The film which was released in 1984, grossed $242 million in the USA only while over $295 million worldwide, which was also the highest-grossing comedy film of its time.

Now Jason Reitman along with Gil Kenan co-wrote the screenplay for the sequel. It is also reported Reitman plans to shoot the movie in the summer of 2019 and has already started the casting process. Also, this movie will not have any connection to the 2016 "Ghostbusters" movie that starred Melissa McCarthy. Sony Pictures also shared the first look of the project last week which included footage of the Ecto-1 vehicle which was also seen in the original movie.

On Friday, Sony also announced the release date for its Marvel "Morbius" project, which is set for July 31, 2020. It is also reported that Matt Smith was in final talks to join Jared Leto in "Morbius." Morbius is a movie based on Spider-Man's villain while "Safe House" director Daniel Espinosa will be directing it.
