'Batman' of 1960, Adam West passes away at 88 years old

Adam West, best known for playing the role of Batman in the TV series during the 1960’s passed away on Saturday at the age of 88.

Veteran actor Adam West, best known for playing the role of Batman in the TV series during the 1960's passed away on Saturday at the age of 88. The actor passed away in Los Angeles after struggling for a brief period with leukemia. West's family released a statement which read, "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans' lives. He was and always will be our hero."

Adam West gained prominence for his portrayal of Batman and is credited as one of the first actors wear the bat-suit. He was appreciated for bringing a sense of comedy into the character and the TV series became an unexpected hit during its run. This led to a huge fan following for the actor who loved seeing him in the role of Batman. On the other side, due to his involvement in the Batman series, he had difficulties finding work for any other role and penned his struggles in a book titled ‘Back To the Batcave'. Adam West opened up in the book and said that he had felt disappointed as well as angry when he was ignored by director Tim Burton while making the Batman movies in the early 1990's. The actor was around the age of 60 by then but was optimistic about playing the role convincingly.  

Adam West recently appeared on the popular sitcom ‘Big Bang Theory' to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his hit TV series, ‘Batman' with the cast.
