Prakash Padukone to be honored with BAI's maiden lifetime achievement award

Prakash Padukone will be honored with the first Lifetime Achievement Award instituted by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for his remarkable contribution to the sport.

Ace badminton player Prakash Padukone will be honored with the first Lifetime Achievement Award instituted by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for his remarkable contribution to the sport. The BAI president Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Every year, the BAI will honor a person who has contributed immensely to the sport. And at our core committee meeting today, we have chosen Prakash Padukone for our first-ever lifetime achievement award." The award will comprise of a citation and cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs."

Himanta Sarma added that the decision to honor Prakash Padukone was taken core committee meeting and he will be the first recipient to receive the lifetime achievement award. A function will be held at New Delhi to honor the badminton player. 

Prakash Padukone had won the 1980 All England, besides bagging a bronze at the 1983 World Championship in Copenhagen. He also won a gold medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. He received the Arjuna award in 1972 and the Padma Shri in 1982. 

Prakash Padukone is the father of Deepika Padukone and Anisha Padukone. While Deepika is a successful actress in Bollywood, Anisha, on the other hand, chose sports as her profession and is a professional Golfer.
