As a response to the threats by North Korea, US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis, after a meeting with President Donald Trump and other national security advisors, indicated that the response by the US and its allies would be dangerous and powerful.

He released a statement saying, "Any threat to the United States or its territories, including Guam or our allies, will be met with a massive military response, a response both effective and overwhelming. Washington was not looking for the ‘total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea. But as I said, we have many options to do so."

He also hinted that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un should be aware that Washington's allegiance to Japan and South Korea will remain steadfast.

These statements came after Kim Jong-Un successfully tested a hydrogen bomb, which created tremor of magnitude 6.3 making it the most powerful weapon ever tested, endangering the US and its allies like South Korea, China, Australia, and others.

On being asked about the US attacking North Korea following the nuclear test, US President Donald Trump said: ‘We'll see.'

He further added: "North Korea is a rogue nation which has become a great threat and embarrassment to China, which is trying to help but with little success."

Julie Bishop, the foreign minister of Australia reacted to the issue by saying, "We have to bring unprecedented pressure to bear because North Korea will have to pay a significant price for this latest nuclear test,"
