In another encounter launched by the Indian Army, five terrorists including a Jammu & Kashmir professor were killed in Jammu & Kashmir's Shopian district.

Director General of Police, Jammu & Kashmir Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted the news by saying, "Encounter concluded at Badigam, Zainpora in Shopian, 5 bodies of terrorists recovered. Well done boys - Army/ CRPF/J&K Police."

Top Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Saddam Padder is also believed to be among the slain terrorists but police officials said it can only be confirmed after ascertaining the identity of the bodies. If it is indeed Padder, he was the last of the 11 terrorists that posed with their leader Bhuran Wani in the iconic picture.

"It sounds very depressing to note that our state is losing young lives to the unending cycle of violence. They could otherwise be utilized for a positive contribution. Today's deaths have brought a stark fact to fore that gun, either of a militant or that of security forces, is no solution to issues. Political issues need political interventions," said Mehbooba Mufti, J&K Chief Minister.

Soon after the news of the encounter's spread, thousands of people took to streets and started pelting stones which forced the Army to open fire killing five.
