Zoya Akhtar confirms a Gully Boy 2 already!

Gully Boy; a film touted as the first Hip Hop film of Bollywood, was based on the rapping scene of the streets of Mumbai and took much of its inspiration and the much loved rap songs and lyrics from the lives of Indian street rappers, Divine and Naezy.

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer; Gully Boy, has gone up to becoming one of Bollywood's most loved films and is also begin considered as one of the finest performances of both the actors of the film. Gully Boy; a film touted as the first Hip Hop film of Bollywood, was based on the rapping scene of the streets of Mumbai and took much of its inspiration and the much-loved rap songs and lyrics from the lives of Indian street rappers, Divine and Naezy.


And now that the film is so loved by the audiences and critics alike; the film's director, Zoya Akhtar has confirmed that a sequel to the film is in the making. Speaking about the same; Zoya was quoted saying," My co-writer Reema Kagti and I do feel there's so much more to be said on the entire hip-hop culture in our country. And another film exploring the theme is being scripted and planned."


Zoya; who has previously helmed films like Dil Dhadak Ne Do, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and Lust Stories to name a few, quashed any possibilities of her brother Farhan Akhtar featuring in the sequel as opposed to the rumors of him playing a pivotal part in the sequel. 



Gully Boy is also the first film directed by Zoya that does not feature her brother, Farhan in it!


Talking about the same; Zoya said," He just didn't fit into Gully Boy. And we're both sorry about it. Also, his image from the Rock On series is affiliated to an entirely different genre of music. It would have been a bit of a culture shock for the audience to suddenly see him swerve from stadium-rock to hip-hop."


For those living under the rock; Gully boy witnessed Ranveer Singh essaying the character of Murad Ahmed, a driver's son from the "gully's of Mumbai", who uses his words as an outlet for his pain and anger and the social inequalities he sees in the society. While Alia Bhatt aka Safeena; is his ‘hateli' girlfriend; who is a surgeon in the making and loves her boyfriend to the moon and back!


Apart from Ranveer and Alia; the film also featured Vijay Raaz, Kalki Koechlin and debutant Siddhant Chaturvedi in pivotal roles. 


Well, we certainly can't keep calm until further details of the sequel are revealed and hope for the sequel to be bigger and better!
