The central government sacked Pahalaj Nihalani from the post of Censor Board chairman. In an announcement, the government notified that Prasoon Joshi will replace Nihalani as the new chief of CBFC. Actress Vidya Balan has been named as a part of reconstituted Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and she hopes to fulfill her responsibilities in this new role. Talking to the media after being named in the Central Government's notification, the actress said, "I hope to fulfill my responsibilities as a member to the best of my abilities. I look forward to this exciting phase where our cinema will be allowed to reflect the sensibilities, realities, and complexities of the society we are living in today."

Other than Vidya, other personalities in the reconstituted Censor Board includes Gautami Tadimalla, Waman Kendre, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal, Vivek Agnihotri, Neil Herbert Nongkynrih, T.S. Nagabharana, Ramesh Patange, Vani Tripati Tikoo, Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Mihir Bhuta.Vidya Balan has featured in some content oriented films which can easily be called progressive. Some of Vidya's popular films include Paa, Ishqiya, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Guru, Heyy Babyy, No One Killed Jessica The Dirty Picture and Kahaani. She is working on her upcoming film 'Tumhari Sulu.'

Filmmakers are taking a sigh of relief after the sacking of Pahalaj Nihalani as he had single-handedly made the lives of multiple directors miserable after unnecessarily targeting certain films over the last 2 years. We can firmly say that the dark phase of the censor board is finally over with the sacking of Nihalani.
