The depiction of ancient Indian history in Indian television and cinema has been evolved over the years by adapting to contemporary filmmaking to portray the historic veracity. However, the history of the Gods and princes has now traversed to the medium of Radio where listeners can tune in to the times gone by.


Earlier, it was reported that a radio show on Mahabharat will feature the voices of Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi, Shatrughan Sinha and Shakti Kapoor for its lead characters. Latest reports suggest that Shilpa Shetty is all set to join the bandwagon. Having worked in films and television shows, Shilpa Shetty makes radio debut with the mythological show as Draupadi.


Commenting on her radio debut, Shilpa elaborated about her spiritual inclination which fosters her to impart the same in her son Viaan. She said to a leading tabloid, "As kids, BR Chopra's Mahabharat was the only show we were allowed to watch on TV. I have always been spiritually inclined, Draupadi is a beautifully etched, iconic character and I am happy to lend my voice to her while exploring a new medium."


The actress who has already commenced prepping up for the show mentioned that her mother acquainted her with the Mahabharat show in her childhood days and that the episode of vastraharan brought tears in her eyes.


"I will be in the company of many stalwarts and I want my son now to hear me narrate the story of the Pandavas and Kauravas that I grew up listening to," Shilpa said.


On being asked about how much of a radio listener is she, Shilpa said, "Till 12 years ago, we would carry CDs and listen to music in the car. Now, I tune into a radio channel when I'm on the move. I listen to the radio a lot when I am on the road and so must many others in the homes. This show will reach out to all of them."
