Singer Sonu Nigam has been in news ever since he tweeted about Azaan being broadcasted through speakers in his neighborhood which disrupts his sleep frequently. Various people reacted on Sonu’s tweets, but the one reaction that stood out was of a Kolkata-based cleric Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, who offered RS 10 Lakh to anyone who cuts Sonu’s hair, make him wear old torn shoes around his neck and then parade the country.

Sonu took the cleric’s response seriously and called his hairstylist Hakim Alim to shave his head and also called for a press conference. The singer addressed the conference and asked the cleric to keep his Rs 10 lakhs ready. He further stated that “It isn’t any agitation or challenge. The one who is cutting hair is a Muslim and I am a Hindu. There is no animosity. The same language of fatwa can be communicated in a language of love.” Sonu also said that his hair stylist is a Muslim (Alim) who will cut his hair so there shouldn’t be any animosity.

The Kolkata-based cleric later responded to Sonu’s claims and said that the singer had followed only one of his 3 conditions. He went on to say that he will reward the singer once he completes all three of his conditions. Sonu has time and again clarified his stance and said that he isn’t targeting Islam but, the usage of loudspeakers at all religious places of worship, including temples, mosques, and gurdwaras.
