Shoojit Sircar's next release; Udham Singh: The Story of a Freedom Fighter, has been creating a lot of buzz, first for being touted as the comeback film of Irrfan Khan and then now for featuring Uri fame actor, Vicky Kaushal!

And now; the filmmaker has finally broken his silence and revealed his reasons for casting Vicky in the titular role of the freedom fighter!

When quizzed about his choice of topic for the film by Mumbai Mirror; the October filmmaker said," I chose this event as it is one of the most pivotal revolutionary contributions to the freedom movement which has albeit gone unnoticed for generations. Udham's struggle and sacrifice is a very important story for today's audiences to be made aware of, and I have collaborated with my esteemed writers Riteish Shah and Shubendu Bhattacharya, along with my friend and producer Ronnie Lahiri once again for this humble tribute to the maverick freedom fighter and his story."

While explaining his reasons for casting Vicky in the titular role; Shoojit stated," Vicky is unquestionably one of the most dynamic actors we have today, and together we shoulder great responsibility to deliver due justice in bringing alive this inspiring story on screen."

The film; which is currently being shot in Russia, had a lot of people recognizing Vicky as Major Vihaan from his last release, Uri: The Surgical Strike. Sircar revealed that a lot of people admired Vicky's commitment and that is something he likes about the actor too.

The filmmaker said, "I like that too, along with his dynamism and continued attempts to experiment with different roles like Masaan, a beautiful character and film. There's a burning intensity and anger that I saw in his eyes during our first meeting itself that convinced me he was the right man to play Udham."

Calling the film a dream come true; Vicky in a previous interview had said," It's a surreal feeling because it's like a dream come true as I am finally getting to work with him. I have always been a big admirer of how Shoojit sir looks at his stories. The way he is looking at the character (Udham Singh) and the world is extraordinary as well as beautiful."

The biopic is scheduled to release to hit the screens somewhere next year!
