Cyberabad Police in Hyderabad has sent notices to over 500 people including famous Bollywood celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff and cricketers like Yuvraj Singh; with regards to the QNet scam.

QNet; which is a multi-level marketing company, founded in 1998 in Hong Kong, by Malaysia based businessman Vijay Eswaran, operates in more than 30 countries and deals in India via its franchise Vihaan Direct Selling, has been accused of being a Ponzi scam by the Economic Offences Wing(EOW).

Speaking to a digital publication; Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, said, "These people have been brand ambassadors for this company, endorsing their products and going for their meetings. We came to know they have received huge remuneration and traveled abroad with the company representatives. This is a serious offense."

Mr. Sajjanar further revealed," If they don't show up, the law will take its own course. We have collected various evidence against them and we will charge sheet them. Some of those who were served notices are QNet members and senior directors. We are doing our best in Telangana to make arrests. Police have to take action and investigate such companies, as most of the business is being done online youths are getting duped. Those who got victimized in Telangana run into thousands."

In response to the same; various publications have been carrying a press release issued by QNet, that read," In cognizance of Cyberabad Police Commissioner's statement about the misrepresentation by the independent representatives of QNet in Hyderabad promising quick money and making other false claims about the financial returns from the business, we have launched a detailed internal investigation to ascertain and punish the culprits, and have already suspended several Independent Representatives."

The move by Cyberabad police comes after several victims of the QNet Ponzi schemes alleged that they had been duped because celebrities were promoting QNet, and they invested in the schemes believing in their authenticity because of such actors who were promoting it.

Officials of the Cyberabad police also said ‘Those who received notices can submit their details through their representatives and need not to appear personally before the police'. Further, they also revealed notices have been served through their WhatsApp numbers under Section 91 of the CrPC (production of any document or other things necessary or desirable for the purposes of any investigation).
