Shahid Kapoor who is currently receiving a lot of praise and appreciation for his recent release Kabir Singh deserves every bit of the same as he did an outstanding job of portraying the role of an alcoholic surgeon, who goes on a self-destruction path after his girlfriend is forced to marry another man. And though the film turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2019, a certain section of the society has criticised the film.

Post the success of Kabir Singh, it is reported that the actor has upped his fee to a whopping 35-40 crores. And Shahid who was recently approached for the remake of Telugu hit Jersey starring Nani and Shraddha Srinath, demanded Rs 40 crores for the same. In a recent interview, Shahid Kapoor opened up about him charging a whopping Rs. 35 crores. He said, "I have to sign a film to receive any money. I think the only people who are making money are Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani. I have exactly the same bank balance I had before Kabir Singh, I have to sign another project before I get paid."

Helmed by Sandeep Vanga, Kabir Singh raked in a total of Rs 270.43 crore at the box office in just thirty-three days. Kabir Singh is also a remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy which featured Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role, while Kabir Singh featuring Kiara Advani and Shahid Kapoor's romance.

Reacting to the controversy of Kabir Singh, Shahid said, "My drug addict character of Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab was also quite deplorable. I feel that people should walk out of the hall loving a performance, not the character. One needs to, therefore, make bold choices. For a star who is otherwise liked and loved, it's a big thing if people watch a character on screen and wonder what the hell he is doing. It's a huge compliment for me if people disliked Kabir Singh. To be able to lead people into a willing suspension of belief is the biggest victory for a film."
