Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has once again become a victim of online trolling after a video of him saying "Toronto is my home" went viral. The star finally came out and commented on his citizenship controversy by posting tweet which said that he never hid the fact that he holds a Canadian passport.

Soon after his tweet, an old clip of the actor emerged online. In the video, Akshay can be heard addressing a crowd, apparently in Toronto, "I must tell you one thing, 'This is my home. Toronto is my home.' After I retire from this industry, I'm going to come back here and stay here." The actor was quickly branded as a "liar" and "fake nationalist".

Akshay was recently slammed on social media for not participating in the election after his wife, Twinkle Khanna was seen casting her vote minus "the man of the house". On Tuesday, after the screening of a movie, Aki was asked to comment on the criticism over his absence from the polling booth, but he dismissed the question with a smile and walked off.

The actor finally addressed the latest controversy on his Twitter page by saying, "I really don't understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India and pay all my taxes in India. While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others. I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger."
