Period films derive character that brings necessary realistic acting in an actor. Interpreting the historical characters on the screen is significantly challenging for the actors and the filmmakers to reconnect history and its significance with the audience.

After Salman Khan's Jai Ho, Mohnish Bahl returns to acting on the big screen. According to the reports, Mohnish Bahl will be playing Nana Saheb aka Balaji Baji Rao, a Maratha Peshwa (Prime Minister) in Ashutosh Gowariker's Panipat which revolves around the battle of 1761.

The film will see Mohnish Bahl playing the cousin of Arjun Kapoor's character Sadashiv Rao Bhau and husband to Padmini Kolhapure's character Gopikabai.

Commenting about the same, producer Sunita Gowariker said to a leading tabloid, "Nana Saheb is a multilayered character and Mohnish, an immensely talented and versatile actor, comes with years of experience. He has never failed to impress with his performance."

Well, Panipat will mark Mohnish Bahl's first period film, which depicts the battle between the Marathas and the forces of King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali. Besides Mohnish, other actors too are new to the realm of period films.

The film's casting includes Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Sanjay Dutt and Padmini Kolhapure. Sanjay Dutt will be seen in a lead role while other actors will play pivotal roles in the film.

Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon have been undergoing training in horse riding with the leads in the film. The iconic Shaniwar Wada of Pune has been erected in the ND studio in Karjat. The film is expected to go on floors this month.
