Akshay Kumar's latest offering 'Toilet: EK Prem Katha' is currently in cinemas and the actor is urging people to go and watch the film to raise awareness about the issue of open defecation prevalent in the rural parts of the country. The film's story revolves around a couple who have problems in their marriage due to a lack of toilet in the house. In a recent media interaction, Akshay said that everyone is affected by the lack of toilets including kids. "Kids are the ones who are most affected due to open defecation as they are so vulnerable to diseases. Through my movie, I am urging each Indian household to build toilets to keep their children healthy and happy," he said.

The film has partnered with popular kids channel Nickelodeon for promotions in order to reach a younger audience across the country. The film opened at the box office on Friday with decent numbers but has received mixed reviews from the critics.  Due to the rustic feel in the film, the multiplex audience has stayed away from theatres and now it remains to be seen if the film can grow over the weekend to get some good numbers. The film features actors Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles and has been directed by Shree Narayan Singh. The movie tries to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan through its storyline which focuses on cleanliness. Other than this the actor is waiting for the release of his films 'Padman' and '2.0'.
