Filmmaker Karan Johar had found himself in the middle of a controversy when Kangana Ranaut had referred to him as the ‘flagbearer of nepotism' in the film industry earlier this year on his chat show ‘Koffee with Karan'. The director was present at a press meet organised for his latest production venture ‘Ittefaq' where he talked about the issue of nepotism. Film's co-producer Shah Rukh Khan, Actors Sonakshi Sinha, Sidharth Malhotra, Akshaye Khanna, debutante director Abhay Chopra and creative producer Juno Chopra were also present at the event. Karan talked about how both outsiders and people from the filmy background can work together efficiently giving an example about the personalities present on the stage.

"At the two ends of this line, we have two non-nepotistic people and in the centre are the brand ambassadors of nepotism. Sidharth Malhotra and Shah Rukh Khan do not represent nepotism, which speaks volumes about how both can work equally, efficiently and correctly," Karan said. The director was previously criticised for making fun of Kangana Ranaut on stage at the Indian International Film Awards (IIFA) in July earlier this year. Karan Johar along with actors Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan took a dig at the actress which received a lot of criticism from all corners. All three later apologised for their act following the hatred.

The film Ittefaq is the remake of Yash Chopra classic of the same name and is scheduled to release in cinemas on November 3. The film's story is about a murder mystery involving two people.
