Varun Dhawan has finally broken the news that he will be starring in the new version of the 1995 super hit Coolie No.1, which was originally directed by his father, David Dhawan.

Further speaking about the film; that also stars Sara Ali Khan; Varun said that the film will not be a remake but an adaptation of the original film. In a statement to the PTI; the Kalank actor said," When we do something like this the idea is that the essence has to be the same. But at the same time, the film is completely different. It is not a remake, it is an adaptation. But the title is the same."

On being asked as to why did he choose to do the film; Varun candidly confessed," Why I wanted to do this film is because when I watched Coolie No 1, I was so entertained. I had such a good time watching it. It is a family film. It is one of the funniest and most entertaining films I have ever watched. It has an amazing screenplay and starred brilliant actors. We are adapting it. It is not a remake."

He further added," I just want to try and bring that kind of fun back. That is why my father is also ready to do it. He has changed a lot of things. He has challenged himself also. He is the only one who knows the sur for this kind of film."

Varun also realizes that the film will face a certain amount of scepticism until it actually hits the theatres. "There will be hopes and expectations. There will also be people who will be sceptical and say, ‘Why are you making this? It's not possible.' The whole circus will happen."

Varun also revealed that the film is currently under scripting and will being shooting soon. He was quoted saying," Work is on for Coolie No 1. The shoot will start in August-September."

On the professional front; Varun will be seen in Karan Johar's magnum opus Kalank alongside the likes of Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha and Remo D'souza's dance flick Street Dancer 3, which is the third installment of the ABCD franchise.

While Kalank is Varun's first period film; the actor revealed it was not easy for him to relate to his character in the film, as his character has an arrogant streak to himself. Speaking about it; Varun said," Since it was a period film, initially, I could not identify with my character. Zafar is the way he is because of certain incidents that have happened during his childhood. So during the prep, I would sit with Abhishek for two hours and talk about Zafar and his back story. There is an air of arrogance to him. It was difficult to pick that up because I haven't played such a role so far."

Speaking about Street Dancer 3; the Badlapur actor said," It is physically very challenging. I don't think I will be able to do something like this as I grow older. After first two days of shoot, I just sat down and asked Remo, ‘What's happening? How can you expect us to dance for seven hours daily?' There are many kids also and they are at it always. Then you have Prabhudheva. No matter whatever you do, it looks wrong in front of him. There are many dance forms from electronic, popping to urban and new school. I heard about so many dance forms recently only. I didn't even know they existed!"
