After the release of Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani's Kabir Singh, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga replied to all the negative comments his movie received. In his recent interview Anupama Chopra, the director said, "When I started this film, I knew it would be a big success at the box office, but I never thought that the rage would be repeated, and it has multiplied four times now." Further defending the slap scene, he'd said, "When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don't have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don't see anything there."

The statement Sandeep Reddy Vanga made were not taken well by a lot of people, which also created a lot of buzz on social media. The negative feedback received by the audience stated that the film praised misogyny and disrespectful behaviour towards women.

Though some fans are mocking the directors for his outrageous reply, many fans came out in his support. Those fans have even started a hashtag on Twitter, #WeSupportSandeepReddyVanga, which s also trending on Twitter. One fan on Twitter wrote, "#WeSupportSandeepReddyVanga for the true making of a film people see bold content u see the pain of love. Come on 2 gentleman support u r director. He just said there should be Liberty among them."

'Kabir Singh" is a remake of Telugu hit 'Arjun Reddy' and it tells the story of a short-tempered surgeon Kabir Singh who chooses the path of self-destruction after he cannot marry the love of his life Preeti. The film also features Soham Majumdar, Arjan Bajwa, Suresh Oberoi, Nikita Dutta and Kamini Kaushal in pivotal roles. And though the film emerged as a debatable, it yet crossed Rs. 200 crore mark in just 13 days of its release.
