Deepika Padukone who completed filming Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak will be seen essaying the role of Kapil Dev's wife Romi Bhatia in 83. In her recent Interview, she was asked which sportsperson she would love to play, as given the number of biopics made on various sports icon.

She revealed that she would love to play the role of her dad Prakash Padukone, who became the first Indian to win the All England Open Badminton Championships. She said, "I understand the gender issue (smiles). But if I had to play a sports person, then it would be him or any sports legend from that era. That's because of what they achieved in the circumstances, within the limited exposure and knowledge versus the kind of funds, facilities and visibility available to athletes today. But in spite of all that, to achieve that greatness and legendary status is commendable. Our yesteryear athletes inspire me."

Prakash Padukone is a former Indian badminton Champion who ranked No. 1 in 1980 and also received the Arjuna award in 1972 and the Padma Shri in 1982. Deepika just like her dad wanted to pursue her career in Badminton but later opted for acting instead.

Deepika in Meghna Gulzar's next, Chhapaak will be seen opposite Vikrant Massey and plays the role of acid attack survivor named Malti. The film is also inspired by the real-life story of Delhi girl, Laxmi Agarwal. Chhapaak will also mark Deepika's debut as a producer.
