Talk about early bird advantage – the upcoming movie Phullu seems to be the best example of it. If you haven’t seen the trailer, check it out now:

Well, we are sure you must have realized that the plot of the film is very similar to the upcoming Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor movie Padman. Both the films tell a tale about a man who takes it upon himself to make affordable sanitary napkins for poor women like his wife who have to make do with just rags. While Padman is officially based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganatham, Phullu isn’t it and that can be a bone of contention between the two movies.

From the trailer of Phullu, Sharib Hashmi of Filmistan fame seems to have given a spirited performance as eponymous protagonist. When asked about his character being inspired from Arunachalam in a recent interview, he said, “Padman is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganatham. There are other people also like him. We have made a fictional story around that theme. Our film is not based on Arunachalam, but the theme is same.”

But there seems to be an uncanny similarity in the fictional story of Phullu if we go by the trailer. Only the milieu has been changed from South India to Uttar Pradesh. Padman on the other hand has not even finished shooting. So in case Phullu becomes a success, Akshay Kumar’s movie has would certainly lose its novelty factor. The biggest plus of Padman is of course its fascinating story. But with Phullu most likely releasing before Padman, the audience would not be as blown away by the highly intriguing tale of Arunachalam Muruganatham.

So, now it remains to be seen how team Padman is going tackle this unexpected obstacle. If the screenplay of Phullu has been registered with Film Writers Association before Padman, they cannot even sue Phullu for plagiarism.

All in all, credit must be given to the makers of Phullu for picking up this story, completing the shoot and coming up with the trailer well before Padman.
