Ajay Devgn who is already playing the title role in the biopic of a legendary Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare, has been roped in to play the legendary ancient Indian scholar Chanakya in Neeraj Pandey's next titled Chanakya.

Confirming the news, Ajay Devgn took to his Twitter handle to announce his new project by stating, "Looking forward to playing #Chanakya, a film about one of the greatest thinkers in Indian History, directed by @neerajpofficial."

Helmed by Neeraj Pandey, the biopic is based on the life and principles of Chanakya who is famed as the political thinker, philosopher, economist and royal advisor of India.

Speaking about the film, Ajay Devgn said to a leading daily, "I am truly looking forward to playing Chanakya. I've followed Neeraj Pandey's work closely and I know Neeraj will tell this story with the clarity and passion with which it needs to be told."

Neeraj Pandey, who is credited for films like Special 26, A Wednesday, Baby and Rustom spoke about Chanakya by stating, "I have been developing this film on Chanakya for quite some time now. It's an exciting work of passion for me and I am sure the audiences will love Ajay in his portrayal of the visionary genius."

Although, no details of the film have been spilled by the actor and the makers, the film's concept itself is intriguing in every aspect and hopefully the biopic, which is bankrolled by Reliance Entertainment, will unveil the truth about Chanakya.

For the uninitiated, Chanakya made a great contribution in teaching, economics and politics of the nation and has been remembered for his intelligence and wit. The renowned warrior played a significant role in the foundation of Chandragupta Maurya dynasty. He was also called as Kautilya or Vishnugupta. He has also authored Chanakya Niti and Arthashastra.
Besides Chanakya, Ajay Devgn will be featured in Total Dhamaal, Sons of Sardaar: The Battle of Saragarhi and an untitled film with Ranbir Kapoor which is being helmed by Luv Ranjan.
