Ever since he burst on the Bollywood scene with the runaway hit Munnabhai MBBS in 2003, Rajkumar Hirani has been known to have a Midas touch. Hirani is known to bring the flavor of Indianness in his movies and since 2000's has been one of the most bankable directors in the Hindi film industry as his filmmaking does not rest on stars or opulence, but writing.

But does being the most profitable director makes you the best director in Bollywood? Certainly not. So here are 5 common characteristics which prevent Rajkumar Hirani from being referred to as the best director in Bollywood :

Number 1 - Ever since his first movie, Hirani has always had the main protagonist around which the movie revolves. Though characters of Munnabhai, Phunsuk Wangdu aka Rancho and PK have made the audience laugh their hearts out, there is less chance of other characters to develop in the movie.

Number 2 - Its quite funny and endearing, but the main protagonist is always afraid to tell the female protagonist that he loves her. From Munna keeping Chinki in the dark to PK confessing his love for Jaggu at the end, the protagonist of a typical Hirani film will always possess a struggle of expression towards his love.

Number 3 - Remember Jimmy Shergil's character in Lage Raho Munnabhai who's father is disappointed in him for losing money in shares, or Madhavan's character in 3 Idiots whose dad wants a secured job for his or Anushka's dad in PK who is always worried of her wayward ways, Rajkumar Hirani movies have always shown a father who is disappointed in his son/daughter.

Number 4 - Boman Irani has played iconic antagonist's in most Hirani films - Dr. J.C. Asthana in Munnabhai MBBS, Lakhbir Singh in Lage Raho Munnabhai and Virus in 3 Idiots. His characters stayed true to their part of being the big bad wolf for most of the movie but have a change of heart towards the end.

Number 5 - When people come and watch Rajkumar Hirani films, their subconscious is always aware that the movie is going to have a happy ending. Though the end of the movie will make you feel delighted, it becomes a bit repetitive.
