However, there are some actors who were nowhere to be seen on the horizon of Hindi Cinema and then suddenly they were! And when we look back and see their journeys, it seems like a typical ‘rags to riches' story.

Boman Irani - The 58-year old actor who is a fan of Tom and Jerry did not begin his acting career until he was 44! With Raju Hirani's Munnabhai MBBS, he carved an impeccable niche for himself. He has gained critical acclaims and recognition with Lage Raho Munnabhai, Main Hoon Na, 3 Idiots and since then has never looked back.

Sanjay Mishra - The NSD alumni have been working as an actor for more than a decade but Mishra got recognition in Bollywood with movies like Bunty Aur Babli and Apna Sapna Money Money but his line, "Dhondu, just chill" from All The Best made him a household name. Now the talented actor has done movies like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Kadvi Hawa, Masaan which has garnered him magnificent praises of both critics and the public.

Lillete Dubey - She entered the movies rather late, but it's been more than a decade and she has aged gracefully and loves working in the in the current new wave of content-driven, independent Bollywood flicks. It was in Shyam Bengal's Zubeidaa in 2001 that Dubey received critical acclaim. She is best known for her roles in movies like Gadar-Ek Prem Katha, Monsoon Wedding and Ritesh Batra's classic, The Lunchbox.

Farhan Akhtar - After establishing a production house Excel Entertainment and proving his mettle as a story-teller with his directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan Akhtar gave a breakthrough performance with his acting debut Rock On!! Kirron Kher - The actress started her career in the 1980's but gave up to raise her kids. It was with Shyam Bengal's Sardari Begum that she made a comeback and received a National Award for the same. Kirron Kher entered mainstream Bollywood with SLB's Devdas and is best known for her work in Main Hoon Na, Veer Zaara, Rang De Basanti and Dostana.
