Our Bollywood industry has already shifted gears from making the usual masala fan-fare to content-driven movies like Ankhon Dekhi, Masaan, Aligarh, and Shahid that has found favor with the audiences as well as critics.

And one genre which has brought a lot of excitement among the filmmakers and movie-goers is that of horror comedy. From frivolous Mahesh Bhatt horror movies to making films with a solid story-line, Bollywood has improved ten-fold in the past few years.

So here are 4 horror comedies that struck a right chord with the audience -

Stree - One of the most successful movies of 2018, writers Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K did an exceptional job by writing a story based on the true phenomenon and infusing comedy into it. Starring Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, the movie is based on a woman ghost to haunts the men of the village and takes them unless they write, 'Stree, kal mat aana'. The film also stars talented cast of Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Kurrana and Abhishek Banerjee who gave impressive performances.

Golmaal Again - With Golmaal Again, Rohit Shetty with the same cast as previous movies opted to try his hands in the horror comedy genre, swaying away from the out and out comedies we saw in the previous three installments. While the genre was new for Rohit Shetty, this film was just as entertaining as his previous films.

Go Goa Gone - Go Goa Gone was Bollywood's first attempt at a story which included zombies and was greatly appreciated by the audience. The movie shows 3 friends who become stranded in Goa on a private island during a zombie apocalypse. Filled with slapstick humor and plenty of exciting moments, Go Goa Gone makes for a two-hour laughter marathon.

Bhool Bhulaiya - Akshay Kumar proved once again why he is called a genius in choosing the right scripts and Bhool Bhulaiya is a perfect example of it. The Priyadarshan directed movie was based on a woman who haunts an old palace to revenge her lover's brutal murder by the hands of a king. With a perfectly chosen cast, the movie made the audience laugh and scream at the same time.
