Bollywood actress Surekha Sikri is a two-time National Film Award winner, a Hindi theater veteran and a star of Indian soap operas and is considered one of the most talented actors of Indian cinema. With her recent movie Badhaai Ho, she brought life into her character and made us believe she was born to play the character.

So here are 12 performances across various platforms which prove she's always been an effortless screen stealer -

Tamas - It was the role in Tamas which won Surekha her first National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. The movie was based on Bhisham Sahni's novel of the same name and explored heart-wrenching effects of partition on the people at the lowest rung in society.

Kissa Kursi Ka - Kissa Kursi Ka was Surekha's debut film where she played the role of a a conniving supporter of a political aspirant. Though her actions were morally wrong, she had the audience even rooting for those sly actions.

Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro - One of the finest movies based on Hindu extremism, the actress played the role of the protagonist's mother and gave a memorable performance of her career. The movie went on to win two National Film Awards.

Banegi Apni Baat - One of the earliest shows that she was a part of, Surekha Sikri played the role of Radha. The series, that dealt with class divide, gender differences, and transition from the college-to-professional world was far ahead of its times.

Mammo - Surekha played the role of the protagonist's legal guardian Fayyuzi, who unexpectedly comes to an encounter with her long lost sister Mammo. The actress perfectly balanced emotions of warmth and exasperation which bagged her a second National Film Award.

Sardari Begum - In this Shyam Bengal directorial, the actress played the role of Ittan Bai - the owner of a house where courtesans perform. Though she had a brief role in the movie, she ensured that her performance was hard to forget, like always.

Zubeidda - In Zubeidda, Surekha once again reprised the role of Fayyuzzi from Mammo and once again proved that a seasoned performer does not need a screen time to give an impactful performance.

Hari-Bhari - In this movie, Surekha played the role of the family matriarch as the movie draws a comparison from the life she's lived to the life her granddaughter may end with if things are not changed and traditions not altered.

Mr. & Mrs. Iyer - Even though the actress had only 2 scenes in the movie, her performance was definitely one of the major highlights of the movie.

Rehmaan Ke Joote: Kirdaar - Kirdaar was a TV series with various short stories by Indian writers. Even though each story had brilliant actors like Om Puri, Irrfan Khan, and many others, Surekha managed to hold her own.
