Review

A saga of 138 minutes, The Crew also known as Ekipazh will keep you on your edges for the entire duration and by the end, you will feel drained out. The movie is an adaptation of 1979 soviet film Air Crew and we have to say that the film really does justice to its predecessors. The movie talks about a civilian airline crew which is trying to save survivors of an earthquake on a volcano island.

Talking about the first half of the movie, the makers have given all their strength to make the character relatable. In this attempt to hook the audience in its characters, the first half works towards building interpersonal relationships between three pilots. Hollywood movie veterans Danila and Vladimir have used their experience to make this movie worth to remember. Danila plays his character of Alex McCoy with sincerity as the rookie pilot with a conscience who dares to defy seniority. However, his romance with Agne Grudtye’s Sandra is a bit stretched, owing largely to Agne’s wooden and stereotypical turn as a career-driven pilot.

On the other hand, Vladimir plays just the opposite, a steadfast yet weathered senior pilot who prefers to stick to the rulebook. In a somber movie like this, the relationship between Vladmir with his wife give us the comic relief.

Shot in IMAX, the stunts are commendable, some of them might be a bit unrealistic, though, in a world where you are fighting for your life, every single second, everything seems possible. As the two male leads begin to shine, they create some nail-biting sequences helped along by excellent CGI work. But it seems when the CGI started, the makers got a bit lost to hit the right emotional marks on some moments.
