The national security of the United States and the world in general is under threat from metahuman earthlings. Much like aliens trying to take over the world, a wicked witch and her brother lead an army of faceless un-humans. Tough Amanda Waller who heads a covert government agency has the right counter for it: she puts together an army of her own sourced from the most lethal elements serving time in a high security jail.

Deadshot, the assassin on hire who never misses, Joker’s hardened girlfriend Harley Quinn, human pyrokinetic Diablo and other super skilled criminals come together for a mission that will give them clemency, that’s if they survive. While they’re at it, Col Rick Flag leading the team, has a device that can blow up any of them if they step out of line. Flag has a personal interest in the assignment: the witch resides in the body of DrMoone, the love of his life.

Thus, director DavidAyer attaches a mushy tale to the main players. Harley wants to be reunited with Joker, when they’re together, their loins are on fire. Deadshot Floyd can’t wait to play a regular dad to his little daughter. Diablo is punishing himself for using his pyro powers on his own loved ones.

By the end of the first encounter with the witch’s army, the super criminals have bonded enough to seem like super heroes saving the world. That’s if you can overlook the initial introduction where each one of them was presented as a dangerous menace to society. If they’re our super heroes, God save the world indeed.

While the witch snarls and all the destruction comes straight out of the last disaster sci-fi you’ve seen, two actors with well-rounded roles make it immensely watchable. Will Smith as Deadshot the killer who has variety and the best lines and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, keep you well amused and even seem vulnerable, letting you forget who they really are. Until Harley throws the reminder: normal is a setting on the dryer, we aren’t normal. Joker with DAMAGED tattooed on his forehead has little to do but there’s a promise that he’ll be back the next time around.
