Fantastic Beasts 2016 Review: Wizardry World moves back Britain to New York

Fantastic Beasts 2016 Review

Listen All You Hogwarts fans, J. K. Rowling is back to take us on another magical journey but this time it is not a boy with a scar who is special and our key to open up the wizardry world, this time it is a suitcase. Suitcase with a creature or to be more precise dragons.

Unlike Harry’s reality, which unfolds in a present that looks like ours “Fantastic Beasts” takes place in a 1926 New York.

Written by J. K. Rowling and directed by Harry Potter film series veteran David Yates, Fantastic Beasts introduces as its nominal hero one Newt Scamander played by Eddie Redmayne, an English wizard who arrives on an Atlantic liner with a magical suitcase of zoological curiosities, which in short time is accidentally swapped with a baker’s sample case of pastries.

The film has two perspectives. One of Kowalski played by Dan Fogler, the mustachioed baker whose dream is to open a Polish-style doughnut shop, swept into magical mischief; and Newt, the Hogwarts graduate adjusting to the different norms of the wizarding community in America.

This lends itself to one of the film’s more inspired sequences, in which Newt and Kowalski are snuck into an all-wizard, women-only boarding house to stay with Goldstein played by Katherine Waterston, a hard-nosed investigator of criminal black magic who’s recently been demoted to wand registration and her flirty sister Queenie played by Alison Sudol.

As this famous British fantasy has now moved to America, there’s no nostalgia to draw on, no comfort to undermine; it is a new territory and whole lot of other drama to explore.

A new world with New villains. Mary Lou Barebone played by Samantha Morton, the leader of the witch-hunting N.S.P.S., who holds street sermons alongside her son, Credence played by Ezra Miller; Percival Graves played by Colin Farrell, the head of the American wizard community’s secret police; the Shaw family and much more serve their purpose in the movie.

The music is nostalgic and takes us back to our old harry potter days. And with 4 more movies to come, we hope the story line will get even more interesting. VFX is the hero for the movie. One thing that will grip you in the movie are the visual effects. As the title suggests, you will find some really fantastic beasts and we are sure that they will take your breath away.

All in all, Fantastic Beasts is not Harry Potter but the film has its own character which is going to grow with the upcoming sequels. And if you are a fan of the wizardry world then you have found another way to live in that world again.
