His body has been brought to his residence in Purasaiwalkam for final rites. At 48 years old, his sudden demise has deeply saddened his fans and the Tamil film industry. Many Tamil actors, directors, and producers are anticipated to pay their final respects later today, March 30.

Daniel Balaji was renowned for portraying antagonistic characters in films. His portrayal of Amudhan in Gautham Menon and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’ is particularly memorable and stands as one of Tamil cinema’s iconic villainous roles. Balaji began his career as a unit production manager in Kamal Haasan’s unrealized project, ‘Marudhunayagam’. He also made his television debut with a memorable role in Radikaa Sarathkumar’s ‘Chithhi’. In the series, he played the character of Daniel, leading to the adoption of the screen name, Daniel Balaji.

In 2022, he ventured into acting with the Tamil film ‘April Madhathil’. However, it was his role in Gautham Menon’s ‘Kaakha Kaakha’, starring Suriya and Jyotika, that propelled him to fame. He also portrayed the antagonist in Vetri Maaran’s ‘Polladhavan’. Following the success of ‘Kaakha Kaakha’, he reunited with Gautham Menon for ‘Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu’, portraying the stylish character of Amudhan.

Among his notable films are Ajith’s ‘Yennai Arindhaal’, Simbu’s ‘Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada’, Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Bairavaa’, Dhanush’s ‘Vada Chennai’, and Vijay’s ‘Bigil’. His latest appearance was in ‘Ariyavan’.

In addition to Tamil cinema, Daniel Balaji also featured in several Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada films.
