‘Having access to a toilet is a human right’ says Bhumi Pednekar

In a recent interview, actress Bhumi Pednekar said that the Indian society needs to change and evolve for the betterment.

Actress Bhumi Pednekar is currently awaiting the release of her upcoming film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' in which she plays the female lead opposite Akshay Kumar. In a recent interview, the actress said that the Indian society needs to change and evolve for the betterment. The actress was present at an event organized by Times Glamour and spoke to journalists on the occasion. Talking about her film, she said, "It comments on the mindset of the majority of Indian society and how we live in a time of hypocrisy. Now it is time for us to change and it's time for us to evolve as a society and make toilets."

She further said that the film is a love story and has some very simple characters but which eventually imparts a message to the society. The actress believes that the film will impart an important message to the Indian society which will bring about a change. She went onto say that the film will encourage a lot of women to fight for their rights and not to settle for anything less than deserving. Bhumi feels that having a bathroom is a human right and everyone should have access to one. 

The actress said that India has a history of suppressing women but she hopes that the things will change slowly and steadily. She further said that as an actor it is heart-wrenching to portray such serious social issues on the big screen but also feels grateful to be able to do so.
