Bajirao Mastani Gets A Stage Revamp, Rajneish Duggal To Play Peshwa Bajirao?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani is all set to get a stage revamp. Reportedly, Rajneish Duggal will essay the role of Peshwa Bajirao. Read below to know more.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2015 movie Bajirao Mastani was hailed by the audience and was a blockbuster hit. The film featured Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra as the main leads. However, now the film is all set to get revamp with a stage musical with Kathak legend Pandit Birju Maharaj as its creative director.

The musical revamp based on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani will be helmed by Maitreyee Pahari. Reports state that actor Rajneish Duggal will be stepping into the shoes of Ranveer Singh and will portray the role of Peshwa Bajirao. He will be accompanied by Kathak dancers Shailja Nalwade and Anusua Majumdar who will be portraying Mastani and Kashibai respectively.

Speaking about his role in the revamp, elated Rajneish said, “I am extremely glad to have been trained under the guidance of Pandit Birju Maharaj ji for the musical. This is something I have never done before. While initially, the plan was to take it to different cities and countries there is a possibility that it will go online. The talks are still on.”

The musical features nine-ten musical sequences with 50 dancers and 12 actors from across the nation. They have retained seven songs from the movie including Malhari.

On the work front, Ranveer Singh will be next seen in Kabir Khan’s sports-drama ’83. The film is based on team India’s victory in the 1983 cricket World Cup against Kapil Dev. The film also features Deepika Padukone. The film was slated to release on April 10, 2020, but the makers had to postpone the release date pertaining to the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
